ITEM-Game International Competition 2015

The investment decisions in power generation technologies, the trading of electricity in organized markets and the price and volume risk management are critical aspects in liberalized electricity markets, namely for power generation companies.

The ITEM-Game International Competition will join players from all over the world and will give them the opportunity to understand the main features of liberalized electricity markets and the challenges faced by market agents in their long-term investment decisions and in their short-term trading strategies.

Players will apply the investment and trading concepts using the ITEM-Game (www.item‐game.org), an interactive simulation platform where players compete among each other and each represents a profit maximizing power company that does investments in power generation (nuclear, coal, CCGT, hydro, wind, solar) and trade its generation in a competitive power pool.

The game will be played in 10 interactive rounds of investment and trading, each round played once a day during the month of March.

To try using the ITEM-Game you can access the website www.item-game.org and follow the instructions. You can launch new games by your own using the ITEM-Game Manager, also available at the website. The game instructions are provided in the “Game description” file.


The winner of the ITEM-Game International Competition will be invited to the EEM15 conference (www.eem15.com) being the prize the payment of the registration fee, accommodation and travel expenses related with the conference venue.
